Why Google’s Deleting Universal Analytics Data & How to Export
Saving Your Historical Data from Universal Analytics
Recently, all users of Google Analytics 4 received an email informing them that their historical data from Universal Analytics will be deleted on July 1, 2024. After this date, all pre-transition data in your Analytics account will be permanently deleted and you will no longer be able to access it. Continue reading to learn everything you need to know about what this means for your business.
What You Need to Do to Save Your Historical Data
As long as you have transferred over to Google Analytics 4, your year-over-year data will still be available from July 1, 2023 onwards. However, data from more than one year prior to the deletion will be gone forever. If you’re only concerned about your YOY data going forward, then you have nothing to worry about. However, if you do want to preserve a record of your data from earlier years, you will need to manually pull your older data for preservation in spreadsheet format.
Even if you don’t currently care about old data, we would recommend taking the steps to preserve it anyway since you may need it at a later point. Fortunately, the process that Google has established for doing so is relatively straightforward. There are a few different ways you can do it, but we think that the simplest option is to use the Google Sheets add-on. This allows you to easily export your old, soon-to-be-deleted data into a Google Sheet that you can keep in your permanent record. Click here if you would like to learn more.
